LSG Edge Over KKR in a Thrilling High-Scoring Encounter at Eden Gardens

In one of the most exciting matches of IPL 2025 so far, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a narrow margin of 4 runs at the iconic Eden Gardens. The 21st match of the season saw fireworks from both sides, with over 470 runs scored in a pulsating contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Batting first, LSG posted a formidable total of 238/3 in 20 overs. The innings was driven by a destructive performance by Nicholas Pooran, who blasted an unbeaten 87 off only 36 deliveries. Pooran’s innings included a spate of boundaries and huge sixes that left the KKR bowlers reeling. He was ably supported by Mitchell Marsh, who scored a scorching 81 off 48 deliveries, and Aiden Markram, who added 47 runs to the scorecard.

Pursuing 239, KKR began well and were 90/1 during the powerplay, with Ajinkya Rahane holding up the innings with a calm 61. Although they lost wickets at critical phases, KKR remained in contention until the last over. Rinku Singh offered late pyrotechnics with a heroic performance, with 16 runs from the final over, but in the end, KKR finished at 234/7, falling a bit short of the target.

Pooran’s heroics earned him the Player of the Match and also propelled him to the top of the Orange Cap standings as the leading run-scorer of the tournament so far.

This win marked LSG’s third victory in the tournament, lifting them to fourth position on the points table. Meanwhile, KKR—last year’s champions—now sit in sixth place, needing to quickly regroup and find momentum.

LSG skipper KL Rahul appreciated the batting intent and calmness of the team in the last overs. “We thought 230+ would be a good platform, but credit to the bowlers for keeping their nerves at the death,” he stated during the post-match presentation.
