Contract Killer Hired by Newlywed Woman to Kill Husband in Uttar Pradesh

Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh: In a gruesome crime, a 22-year-old woman, Pragati Yadav, was arrested for planning the killing of her husband, Dilip Yadav, just 15 days after their marriage. The murder, which was committed in Auraiya district, was planned with the assistance of her lover, Anurag Yadav, and a contract killer.

As per police reports, Pragati was forced into the wedding on March 5, 2025, by Anurag against her will. Being in love with Anurag, she teamed up with him to eliminate her husband. The couple approached a hitman, Ramji Chaudhary, and offered him ₹2 lakh to kill her. According to investigators, part of the money used came from the ‘shagun’ (wedding gift) she got during the wedding ceremony.

On March 19, the accused led Dilip to a deserted field under the pretext of a visit out. There, he was attacked brutally and shot. He was taken to several hospitals despite being rushed there for treatment, but he died on March 21 from the injuries. His death under such circumstances raised eyebrows, and the police initiated an investigation into the matter.

After a stern investigation, Pragati, Anurag, and Ramji were arrested by law enforcement officials. The accused had made the confession regarding the crime and the motives along with the plotting behind the killing. The police have filed a case and are taking legal action against the three suspects.

The brutal killing has shocked the entire region, with most people in disbelief that a newlywed woman could be charged with committing such a ghastly crime. The incident has also triggered fear of an emerging trend of wife killings in Uttar Pradesh. In another similar case involving Meerut, a woman was recently arrested for murdering her husband with assistance from her lover and a contract killer, echoing the Auraiya scenario.

Authorities are already asking the public to exercise caution on relationship-based crimes and to report anything suspicious before they blow up into acts of violence. The victim’s family is meanwhile clamoring for justice, calling for the hardest punishment for those involved.

The case is an eye-opener of the sad reality of how individual conflicts, if left unsolved, may end up in tragic outcomes. While investigations continue, law enforcement authorities are striving to ensure that justice is meted out quickly.
