Simon Fisher-Becker, ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Doctor Who’ Actor, Dies at 63

Simon Fisher-Becker, a British actor who had appeared in Harry Potter and Doctor Who, has died at the age of 63. His husband, Tony, confirmed the news on Facebook, stating that Fisher-Becker passed away on March 9, 2025. The reason for his death was not revealed.

Fisher-Becker became well-known for his work as the Fat Friar, the affable Hufflepuff house spirit, in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001). He was also fondly remembered for playing Dorium Maldovar in Doctor Who, in the fifth and sixth series of the popular sci-fi program.

During his decades-long professional career, Fisher-Becker had many guest appearances in various British TV series, such as Puppy Love, One Foot in the Grave, and The Bill. As for films, he had one credit in the Oscar-winning Les Misérables (2012). Aside from being an actor, he was also a talented writer and public speaker, frequently mingling with fans at conventions and events.

His manager, Kim Barry, spoke very sadly about his death, citing their 15-year working relationship. “Simon was a consummate actor as well as being a gentle, gracious man. His sense of humor, kindness, and commitment to telling a good story will be very missed,” Barry said.

Co-stars and fans alike have taken to social media with tributes for Fisher-Becker, acknowledging his work on-screen and off-screen personality.

His impact as a skillful performer, author, and arts advocate will continue to impress many.
