In the sixth Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) registered a convincing eight-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on March 26, 2025. The game saw a clinical performance from KKR as they dominated RR in every department.
KKR’s Bowling Strength Restricts RR to 151
Choosing to bowl first after being successful in the toss, KKR’s bowlers put Rajasthan Royals on the back foot in the match with a controlled spell of bowling. The Royals failed to form alliances and could manage only 151/9 from their 20 overs. The middle order also failed to convert a good beginning into something bigger, with wickets falling at regular intervals.
Varun Chakaravarthy and Moeen Ali were the pick of the bowlers for KKR, taking two wickets apiece and keeping a tight economy rate. Pacer Harshit Rana also chipped in with two vital wickets, never allowing RR to get going. Riyan Parag, who was leading RR in Sanju Samson’s absence, attempted to keep the innings afloat but received little support from the other end.
Quinton de Kock’s Masterclass Leads KKR to Victory
Pursuing a humble target of 152, KKR took the total lightly, courtesy a stunning innings by opener Quinton de Kock. The South African batsman played an unbeaten 97 off 61 balls, making it a comfortable chase for his side. His innings was interspersed with huge shots, and he finished the game in style by hitting a six off Jofra Archer in the 17th over.
KKR achieved the target with ease within 17.3 overs and were at 153/2. The batting line of the team was in great form, and with this one-sided win, KKR gained their inaugural victory of the IPL 2025 season.
Implications for Both Teams
The win propelled KKR to the sixth position in the points table and gave them necessary momentum going into the later rounds of the tournament. Rajasthan Royals, however, experienced their second straight loss, finding themselves last in the standing. They would have to sit down with each other, reconsider some decisions and re-plan the approach so as to reclaim a winning mentality within their coming games.
Significantly, Riyan Parag emerged as the first Assamese player to captain an IPL team, a milestone in spite of RR’s defeat.
KKR’s dominant all-around effort in this game indicates their intention in IPL 2025, whereas RR will be hoping to come back harder in their next match.
