Nagpur Violence: Clashes Break Out Over Aurangzeb Tomb Issue, 47 Detained

There were violent clashes in Nagpur’s Mahal area on Monday evening as there were protests regarding the Aurangzeb tomb controversy. Stone-throwing and acts of vandalism ensued, with a number of cars being torched. At least 30 police officers were injured while trying to break up the mob. The situation escalated as protesters clashed, compelling law enforcers to act with force.

After the agitation, a curfew and Section 144 were clamped in areas such as Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Tehsil, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli, Shantinagar, Sakkardara, Nandanvan, Imamwada, Yashodharanagar, and Kapilnagar. A strong police force has been put in place to avoid further escalation.

Maharashtra State Home Minister, Yogesh Kadam, confirmed that investigations were in progress to ascertain the precise reason behind the violence. He promised stern action against the culprits and appealed to residents to keep peace.
