Delhi Assembly Polls: Exit Polls Predict BJP’s Return to Power

The Delhi Assembly election ends today, and multiple exit polls indicate significant political shift, predicting the return of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to power after nearly three decades. If these predictions hold good, nearly a decade-old rule of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, might see its end in the capital.

Exit Poll Projections

As per various exit polls:
BJP is likely to win between 35 to 60 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly.
AAP, which had won with a landslide in 2015 and 2020, is likely to miss the 36-seat majority mark.
Congress, which was once the dominant force in Delhi, is likely to win only a few seats and continue its downward trend in the region.

AAP’s Reaction to Exit Polls

Despite the unfavorable projections, AAP has dismissed the exit poll numbers, arguing that they have been inaccurate in the past. “Exit polls have never been right about Delhi. We are confident that the people have voted for development,” said an AAP spokesperson.

Voter Turnout and Public Sentiment

The Election Commission has reported a 60.42% voter turnout, which was strong electoral engagement. National issues, governance models, and local concerns have influenced voter preferences according to political analysts.

Political Significance

If the BJP wins, it will be the party’s first assembly win in Delhi since 1998, and it will be a significant blow to AAP. The results may also determine the direction of the 2029 General Elections, and thus, affect the national level political strategies.

Waiting for Final Results

The outcome will only be known when votes are officially counted. It is then that it will be known whether BJP can really take power back or if AAP goes against the prediction and continues to maintain its hold on Delhi.
