Marvel Reveals Complete Cast of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Starring Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth

Marvel Studios has finally revealed the much-awaited cast of Avengers: Doomsday, which will hit theaters on May 1, 2026. The new movie will include a combination of returning heroes and unexpected new members, which is a big milestone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Returning MCU Icons
Among the largest confirmations, Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, keeping the God of Thunder at the forefront of the Avengers’ narrative. Anthony Mackie is back as Sam Wilson, now solidified as the new Captain America, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier.

Paul Rudd reprises his role in humor and heroism as Ant-Man, while Letitia Wright returns as Shuri, securing her place even more as an integral leader of Wakanda. Tom Hiddleston returns once more as Loki, the God of Mischief, introducing his own unreliability into the mix.

The Return of Robert Downey Jr.
Most surprising perhaps is the comeback of Robert Downey Jr. to the MCU, albeit not as Tony Stark. He is instead going to play Doctor Doom, one of Marvel’s most legendary villains. The casting choice has generated some debate, since Downey Jr. was previously seen in Avengers: Endgame, where Iron Man died to destroy Thanos.

New Faces in the Avengers Roster
The movie will see the MCU’s expansion into the multiverse, introducing long-awaited characters. Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen return as Professor X and Magneto, officially joining the X-Men into the Avengers franchise.

In addition, Vanessa Kirby is set to play Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), and Pedro Pascal will be playing Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), cementing Marvel’s intentions to bring the Fantastic Four into the common universe. Simu Liu will also join the cast as Shang-Chi, after a successful solo outing.

Story and Direction
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday will reportedly touch on multiverse threats, and the main villain will be Doctor Doom. Hype is evident, but others were disappointed about the lack of Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and Spider-Man (Tom Holland) from the revealed cast.

With an all-star ensemble and ambitious narrative, Avengers: Doomsday promises to be a revolutionary addition to the MCU, giving fans an epic movie experience when it finally hits theaters in 2026.
