CSK beat KKR by two wickets in a nail-biting win in a heart-stopping climax at Eden Gardens in Match 57 of the IPL 2025. Chasing a win total of 180, CSK scored 183/8 in 19.4 overs to leave the match at the last over and win in a heart-stopping fashion.
Winning the toss, KKR chose to bat and posted a fighting total of 179/6 in their 20 overs. Andre Russell steadied the innings with a classic aggressive knock of 38 off 21 balls. He was ably supported by Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh, both of whom contributed vital runs in the middle order. Even with a decent start, KKR were unable to cash in fully in the last overs, courtesy some tight bowling by CSK’s Noor Ahmad, the best bowler on display with 4 for 31.
CSK’s quest began on uncertain terms, losing initial wickets like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell. Young Dewald Brevis, however, changed the fortunes with a brilliant innings of 52 off 25 balls. His counterattacking fifty, full of boundaries and sixes, changed the momentum of the game in CSK’s direction.
Tamil Nadu newcomer Urvil Patel provided the drama, scoring 31 off just 11 balls, providing new impetus to CSK’s innings when the match appeared to be getting away from them. His aggressive strokeplay left the KKR bowlers reeling and provided CSK with the shot in the arm they required in the middle overs.
While wickets fell over at the other end, experience MS Dhoni kept his cool. Batting late in the game, Dhoni changed the strike in a calm manner, taking the tail along as the needed run rate kept mounting. With three runs to score from the last two balls, Dhoni played one out to leave Ravindra Jadeja with the strike, who wrapped up the match with a boundary down the ground.
This victory is crucial for CSK, who have been terribly inconsistent throughout the tournament until now. The leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad and the placid experience of Dhoni has given CSK a new sense of feel-good factor as the league reaches the last leg.
It will hurt KKR. Their bowling was atrocious in terms of line and length at crucial points, and the dropped catches provided anxiety in the second half of the innings. With a reasonable score and a reasonable start to the ball, they could not finish the match.
Through this win, CSK climb in the points tally and keep the hopes of getting into the playoffs alive. KKR, in contrast, would have to pick up again well in their other games if they are to remain in the fray.
This game once again proved IPL is magic—standing-room-only crowds, breath-taking performances, and finish-at-the-edge-of-your-seat finishes. The crowd at Eden Gardens saw another one of those thrilling encounters between two of the league’s most fashionable sides.
