Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) concluded their IPL 2025 journey in style with a thumping 110-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. Heinrich Klaasen took the limelight with a whirlwind century, as SRH posted a record 278/3 — the second-highest team score in the history of IPL.
Getting the toss and opting to bat, SRH set the tone. SRH openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head set the tone for the match early on, adding 67 runs in 5 overs. Head carried on his runs-filled innings by scoring 76 runs off 40 balls, with six boundaries and six sixes. Abhishek added a 16-ball 32.
But the pick of the innings was Heinrich Klaasen’s rampage innings. Sent in at No. 4, Klaasen hammered the KKR bowling to the tune of an unblemished 105 off only 39 balls. His innings included 7 fours and incredible 9 sixes. Klaasen scored his hundred in 37 balls, which was the third-fastest IPL hundred in history.
In spite of a series of bowling alterations, KKR could not curtail the run flow. Their bowling attack was lost out against SRH’s run onslaught, giving away 24 extras and losing no momentum.
In pursuit of a 279-run win, KKR required a flying start but the innings never picked up steam. Openers Quinton de Kock and Ajinkya Rahane were dismissed early, and the middle-order collapse had them in trouble at 82/5 in the 10th over.
The sole silver lining of the KKR batting was Sunil Narine with 31 off 16. But it would never be sufficient. SRH bowlers, spearheaded by Harsh Dubey (3 wickets), Jaydev Unadkat (2 wickets), and Eshan Malinga (1 wicket), chased away the KKR for 168 in 18.4 overs.
The 110-run defeat was KKR’s largest ever IPL loss and concluded a shocking season for the two teams, who were already out of playoff races.
This dominant victory marked the end of SRH’s season in style, releasing the batting power that hitherto had eluded them in the competition. For KKR, it was a humiliating conclusion, and their team composition and strategy for the next season will be called into question now.
