Madrid, May 14, 2025 — Real Madrid produced an exhilarating 2-1 comeback win against RCD Mallorca at the Santiago Bernabéu courtesy of a stoppage-time strike from academy product Jacobo Ramón, keeping their La Liga title aspirations alive and preventing Barcelona from being crowned kings early.
The game got underway with a surprise for Madrid when Mallorca’s Martin Valjent took advantage of a rare defensive error from the home team to open the scoring in the 11th minute. The early score permitted Mallorca to retreat and play deep, while depending on counter-attacks and the brilliance of their goalkeeper Leo Román, who was quite clearly the visitor’s best player.
Román made several top-level saves during the evening, turning away best Madrid stars such as Kylian Mbappé, Luka Modrić, and Jude Bellingham. His heroics maintained Mallorca’s lead for most of the match, thwarting Madrid’s attempts and quieting the home crowd.
Real Madrid, with some of their top players absent through injury, still dominated possession and the game. Their determination was eventually rewarded in the 68th minute when Mbappé scored a wonderful goal to equalize. It was his 24th goal of the campaign, and it further consolidated his position in the Pichichi Trophy race.
As time ticked away towards the final whistle, the game seemed to be heading towards a draw — something that would have awarded Barcelona the La Liga title. However, in the 95th minute, young center back Jesús Vallejo floated over a cross that picked out Jacobo Ramón, who slotted the ball home calmly to seal the comeback.
It was Jacobo’s debut senior strike for the club, and it could not have arrived at a more vital juncture. The goal turned the Bernabéu wild and revealed the quality and potential in Madrid’s youth ranks.
Mallorca coach Jagoba Arrasate was disappointed with the outcome, saying, “We had a point in our hands, and to lose it in the last minute is a hard blow.” He did, however, commend his team’s spirit and the work of goalkeeper Leo Román, who saved more than eight times throughout the game.
The win allows Real Madrid remain just within range of Barcelona, who must win their next match to seal the title. At the same time, Mallorca will seek to regroup for their mid-season campaign.
