Pakistan Reacts Sharply to PM Modi’s Operation Sindoor Address: ‘Hope India Will Exercise Restraint’

The latest address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the country after the initiation of Operation Sindoor has sparked a bitter protest from Pakistan, which increased diplomatic tensions further in South Asia. The Indian military operation on terror camps within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) was begun as a counter-reaction to the Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in the killing of 26 Indian civilians.

In his address to the country, PM Modi declared that the terrorists “now know the price of erasing the sindoor of our sisters and daughters,” issuing a direct warning to terror outfits and their suspected sympathizers. He reaffirmed India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and welcomed the precision of the Indian military strike.

Pakistan quickly condemned the raid as an “unprovoked violation of sovereignty.” The Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, reacted indignantly, stating, “We reserve the right to respond at a time and place of our choice.” Islamabad called on the high-level National Security Council to consider the response and plan the response. The Pakistani armed forces have also threatened, intimated reprisal.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar called for the world to act and charged India with heightening regional tensions. “We hope that India will desist from further aggression and go back to the path of peace,” he informed a media briefing.

Nationwide protests erupted in major Pakistani cities including Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad. Demonstrators called on their government to act decisively and defend national honor. Media outlets in Pakistan described the Indian strikes as a “blatant act of war” and criticized Modi’s speech as provocative.

In the world, world leaders were shocked by the escalations. United States President Donald Trump stated, “It’s a shame; we hope both countries will show restraint.” The European Union and the United Nations also called for de-escalation and a return to diplomatic talks.

In spite of the tensions, the Indian government found overall support within the country from the political establishment. Opposition parties such as Congress and local parties praised the military for being quick to react. Some of the leaders were, however, disappointed with the surprise ceasefire after the strikes as a lost chance for pursuing strategic gains.

Since the situation is still unstable, diplomatic circles are closely monitored. Both countries, being nuclear states, are under more international pressure to desist from further conflict and negotiate.
