Rain spoils the sport as Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Game is Abandoned Without Result

Indian Premier League 2025 high-voltage contest between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was unfortunately washed away because rain simply would not let up, both teams taking home a tie and dire impacts on their chances for playoffs.

Bathing first after the Delhi Capitals, who had won the toss, scored 133/7 for 20 overs on a sluggish wicket, Delhi Capitals batted. In their innings were some tight spells of bowling from Sunrisers Hyderabad’s pacemen and DC middle order making some late rush, but interruptions caused by rains made the conduct of the second innings impossible and the match duly abandoned, dashing the hearts of the viewers and changing both sides’ playoff dynamics.

DC’s Batting Blues
Delhi Capitals started cautiously, and the Sunrisers bowling lineup broke at intermittent moments. Australian captain Pat Cummins came as close to deadly best as anyone could, taking 3 wickets for 11 runs in 3 overs, and keeping the DC batsmen on tenterhooks at all times. His spell also accounted for the crucial wickets of opener Prithvi Shaw and captain Rishabh Pant, who were not able to carry on their starts.

The match-day performer for Delhi was Ashutosh Sharma, whose energetic knock of 41 out of 26 balls with 2 boundaries and 3 sixes provided some steam to the Capitals in the counterattack within middle overs. Much worth resistance was also shown by Tristan Stubbs, who also batted through and ended on 41 off 36 deliveries, taking the innings through till the 20th over.

Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat from the SRH camp also did a good job in helping Cummins, bowling closely and putting pressure in the middle and death overs.

Rain Spoils SRH’s Pursuit
Even as SRH were about to begin their pursuit of 134, rain clouds in Hyderabad brought the match to a premature finish. Despite huge efforts by ground officials and staff to resume play, the rain continued, eventually ending the match. SRH, whose win requirement if they were to remain in playoff contention, were heartbroken as the tied point sealed their fate out of IPL 2025.

For Delhi Capitals, the no-result places them in the contention for a playoff spot but the path becomes tougher. They have only three games remaining in the league stage and must secure at least two wins to have a genuine chance of making it to the playoffs.

Earlier Encounter: A One-Sided Affair
Previously in the season, on April 20, 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad had easily defeated Delhi Capitals by 67 runs in a high-scoring match. In that game, SRH had amassed a whopping 266/7, aided by an 89-run blistering knock by Travis Head. Delhi, in their turn, collapsed under pressure, managing to score just 199 runs in 19.1 overs.
As the playoff struggle intensifies, Delhi Capitals will have to put their socks on and try to win their remaining matches. SRH, on the other hand, will try to end the season on a positive note, playing for pride and trying to spoil the playoff chances of other rivals.
